What's wrong with a proposition? You could use a switch to switch in or out an added cap when you need. Since you have .1 's, you might consider using two of them in parallel permanently wired so you have .2uF. Then have another pair switched. This would give you the option of a .2uF or .4uF bypass cap. Now if you really wanted to get "wild" (adjective) you could secretly replace all the resisters in an attenuator switch with caps and ..... have a variable switchathon for a bypass cap. Maybe a JBL driver would sound smoother than the Altec.
