Smaller pi2's are more versatile in placement; towers may be better if you want the speaker to be more at ear level in your listening position, and you won't need a separate stand. Mine are fine on the floor in my room and with my setup- they fill the room completely and sound great. I've used stands in the past with other speakers, but haven't had the inclination with these. Lot of it depends on your room and how much bass you want to add or reduce through placement.
