The coil used in one π, two π and two π tower speakers is a 0.5mH air-core coil made of 20 guage solid wire, having DC resistance of 0.5 ohms. Some are using 18 guage and even 14 guage coils, which are more expensive parts and I certainly wouldn't discourage that. The cost is not actually that much higher for these larger coils, but then again, the difference in performance for this application is pretty small too.
