The crossover needs to be tailored for the load, which is the speaker motor. It's not just advertised impedance, by the way, but rather Re and Le are both significant. In many cases, the mechanical resonance of the motor and it's acoustic environment (horn, reflex, etc.) are important to crossover design too. And the amplifier will transfer power to its load according to its impedance. So these are the things that concern you when choosing drivers of different impedance.
