I guess they are worth what folks are willing to pay for them.
I wouldn't pay $1000 for them either. But some non-DIYers may b ewilling to do so.

I was more interested in this person's descriptions of the sound, than the speakers themselves, hence my pointng it out. I have never heard the onken design myself.
