Yep, I've seen it happen too. Ever see a connection in a 10 ampere line go bad? In cars, it's not that unlikely to have them corrode or get dirty or greasy, then the connection develops resistance which makes the junction get hot when current passes through. Next thing you know, the plastic surrounding the connection melts and sometimes even catches fire.
