Here's 2¢ worth of info about arrays with respect to interference, said simply. If you have a small number of sound sources greater than 1/4λ apart, then there will be nulls in response at frequencies and positions where cancellation occurs. But by using more sound sources, you can fill in the voids. This is called dense interference. If you go too far with this, intelligibility will suffer. But it is a way to smooth response and make a more uniform sound field when 1/4λ spacing between sound sources is impossible.
