Illuminati (2nd Degree)

I fooled around with the pipe speakers a bit... got hooked
listening to things like the Pipe Dreams program (organ
recitals from all over) and space music like Tangerine Dream.

After trimming down the size to about 5 ft each, I spliced
another pipe length back in and now have one about 7-8 ft
tall. They still have just the Radio Shack 4in driver but
they look a bit whacked in the living room here. ;-)

Sound is way interesting though... not even any stuffing in
them. The most I ever put in was a light amount about half
the length to tame a bit of the echoey effect from voice
announcements.

But cosmetics is an issue with rascals like these:

My idea was to hang curtain material in panels in front
of each from the ceiling... some sort of track that can
hold curtain hooks. That material would be as sound neutral
as possible and try to be a close match with the window
draw-curtains (standard apartment variety.)

I wonder how these differ from the sonotube(tm)
setups where the open end is at the top rather
than the bottom (?)

They had a bit of a discussion in the Melhuish forum
about whether sound was affected by gravity. Terry Cain
became a bit colorful and poetic about it.

If the link is bad, go through homepage. James has changed
some things.
