As long as you've calibrated it to the least amount of pressure without having the tonearm swing back to its resting position, you should be all right. The wear and tear on your vinyl will also depend on the age of your records. Newer vinyl will handle the wear and tear just fine. If you're playing old '78s, you need to be careful no matter what.
