The op-amp circuit looks good; similar to what I have. But it is a little more complicated. I have the circuit here but my dog ate the end of the scanner cord. So as soon as I get around to replacing it I can send a pic.
Another one you might want to look at because it already has a PC designed for it is ESP's version. His stuff is well regarded although I haven't heard that one myself.
