You got to be more careful with placement and shielding because they throw a lot of RF noise. Other then that, why not if it's inexpensive enough.

I've got a preamp that I run from a 12v wall wort which is a switching supply. Every now and again I have some issues with it and grunge.

For what it's worth. Nowhere near the expert some of the other guys are.
