I've been listening to my 7 and 4 pi speakers for a few months now. I have finally calmed down a bit so I listening at low volume occasionally. I am getting a lot of distortion out of one of the woofers. It's not that noticeable at moderate to high volume but definitely shows up when playing softly. I bought the 2226 drivers used so would not be too shocked if one was bad.
I've reached out to the local JBL rebuilder. Have not heard back yet. Guitar Center has an open box unit for about $500 (no return allowed).
I could swap the good driver out of my 4 pi center to replace the bad unit in the 7 pi corner horn. If I were to do that would the 4 pi be OK with Eminence Omega Pro 15-2KW-8 15" Professional Series Speaker 8 Ohm from Parts Express? Any crossover changes required?
Or should I just grab the one from Guitar Center and get the failed driver rebuilt as a spare? Or are there any other sources for this driver?
As a sanity check I connected the woofer directly to the receiver to eliminate a possible crossover problem. The mid and tweeter sound fine, so that eliminates an amplifier problem.
The speakers sound great otherwise.
EDIT
I found an open box 2226H at Parts Express, and they allow returns if it's defective for some reason.

I would definitely grab that open-box 2226H from Parts Express. They're actually selling 2226HPLs these days, which is fine 'cause it's the same part as a 2226H just without mounting hardware, the o-ring (that nobody uses) and the decorative label on the magnet.

Hello Wayne,
I went ahead and bought all three that they had in stock. I figured having matching drivers wouldn't hurt.
I've talked with the rebuilder in Tulsa that you recommended in another thread as well as a guy here in Albuquerque that services JBL. I'll probably sell them or maybe build another set of speakers.
Thanks for your guidance and especially for designing such fantastic speakers.
