I discovered this by chance on YouTube. I was impressed with the sound quality of the variety of turntables and their pickups, (cartridges) that were more a part of the whole tonearm itself from the later part of the 1920's, 30's on up to the 50's. The transition of audio technology from mechanical to electrical.
This YouTube channel is loaded with examples of all manner of these antique devices. What struck me is the level of fidelity they seem to produce on a 78 rpm disk. And the turntable stability in pitch. Also what's evident is what must have been a technical renaissance with the variety of pickup examples and drivetrain with the turntable. And the music itself. There's some jazz and blues I'd like in my collection.
Glad to be keeping the tradition alive myself now into another century. Just something about that physical contact of needle to groove with music reproduction.
