I love the looks of your listening room!

Hi I have a pair of Martin Logan ESLs for the mains and a pair of vintage Altec Lansing VOTs (voice of the theater home models) for subs.  The obvious issue with VOTs is size.  Even the home version is about 205 liters.  I did adjust the response a bit for more bottom end as they only crossover at 60HZ.  The MLs are a different breed altogether.  First they reflect rearward the same amount of sound as the direct mode. Everything matters. You need a pretty good sized room.  Too small and they will never sound right.  Next the dimensions must not be a box.  My room is 12 feet wide,17 long and has a slightly sloped ceiling.  It has popcorn stucco on the ceiling as well.  The speakers can not be placed in a corner or near any wall.  Mine are 4 feet from the rear wall and about 3.5 from either side.  Slightly toed in at about 20 degrees and tilted rearward about 10 degrees.  When done properly they completely envelop you with sound.  In order to get such a wide sound stage you lose a slight bit of directionality.IMO a really good trade off.  They are unforgiving, if you feed them crap it will sound that way.  Good source material is a must.  They are highly accurate and have a very fast response.  Other ESLs generally share the traits.  I can never go back to non-ESLs. /forum/index.php?t=getfile&id=3595&private=0
