In the 80's during the "Satanic Panic", there was much talk about playing records backwards.

Has anyone perfected a way to record someone and, as it goes through the recording process, it comes out recorded, a finished product, backward?

Hi, the way it was sometimes it was done was to use either a full track or half track tape recorder to tape it and then to swap the tracks playing when you reverse the tape. It was also possible to just swap the take up and play reels and play the tape backwards. Rolling Eyes

I can only wonder at what possible desire it would be to hear songs backwards. I can understand as a gimmick. For a short duration. But a whole backwards album? Gimme some help here?
I think the group Devo was on to something. Their name derived from a perception of society de-evolving.

I remember in the 1970s when people observed that spinning a record backward created unusual sounds that resembled words. Some artists even recorded a few minutes of voice and then dubbed it into the final mix backwards purely to capitalize on this little mini-craze. The one I remember best was in the intro of ELO's album "Face the Music," but I know there were others.

It's just a novelty thing. Just a goof.

I haven't heard a piece like that so far, but it sounds like something you'd encounter in mystery movies. Playing sounds backward may have you finding some hidden messages that can serve as entertainment. You could even end up getting ideas from it.

I don't know how it will sound to hear songs backwards and I've never tried it for once. I do hope that those that did that really find it interesting and meaningful, also enjoyable.

Playing records backwards is what I have never experienced or done by myself. I never know how it is been done or how possible it will be to do that with a record. But if there's experts in this world, I think it will be very possible to achieve.

The thing is that some of them actually sounded cool. I can remember even playing some songs backwards some time ago just to have a feeling of how it felt when it was a thing many years ago. It can be quite entertaining when you pick the right songs for the experiment.

Honestly, I've not heard such sounds, or maybe it was because I never cared to check some of them. What would you say made them special?
