Very cool, thanks for letting us know.
I've upgraded electrolytic caps with Black Gates, and more recently with Nichicon, Rubycon, Panasonic and Elna caps. After trying each of those, I've centered on Nichicon.
But my favorite - if the capacitors aren't too large, 20uF and less - is to replace with polypropylene caps. Sometimes that's not a possibility though, if space is limited.
Hi Wayne,
I also like and use the Nichicon capacitors although I now use
polypropylene capacitors in decoupling applications.
20 ufd is getting a little physically large for me as well.
Back in the day, I used a couple of brands, the silver looking Infini caps
by TRT were the most accurate/natural, but the accuracy depended upon the ufd,
and nothing over 10 ufd was manufactured if memory serves me correctly.
Around 2 decades ago, the Infini became extinct (except by special order the
last time I checked), and I started using Mundorf in oil (after testing),
although I found some smaller value ufds not that ultra accurate, just like
other brands vary.
Wayne, I wonder how many truly understand the efforts we go to, to design
excellent components? Truly a labor of love.
Cheers
