Sounds like that DAC is really working out for you!

Yes, it is. It is difficult to describe Wayne, but just when I
think the sound is as real as it can possibly be, the sound becomes
more real with the updates. (50% of the electronics is in the recording
venue.) Improving half of the total electronics makes a definite
improvement, as we all know when comparing components.

I have discovered fairly early in 4+ decades of research that
the recording and playback electronics are a major factor
limiting sound quality, just as speakers, room etc are.

I have been running the updates day and night for about 100 hours.
Will continue and see if any more changes occur.

cheers

That's really awesome!

I've heard nothing but good things about that company and its products.

Hi Wayne,

Yes, absolutely. I should have previously posted another thought I
have been mulling over.

Since the recording equipment is half the
electronics, how do I know how close to butting up against
the absolute maximum sonic quality of the recording components?

I think I am quite close after adding the all copper single
ended output jacks with Jenalabs wire increased naturalness
a little, but noticeable. Interestingly,

I just made another upgrade, and the sound improvement was not
as apparent. I think I am really really close now, as the sonic
improvement, naturalness should have been larger.

I don't think I am going to try anything else, at least for awhile.

cheers

I guess the definition "for a while" was not too long for me.  :)

I am working with the power supply and improved the sonics,
slightly; cleaner across the entire audio band. Higher quality
audio grade capacitors, voltage rating etc, makes a difference.

Cheers

What capacitors did you replace, specifically?

Were there electrolytics in the power supply?  Or perhaps ceramic, tantalum or electrolytic caps in the analog end of the signal path?

Or were they polypropylene or polystyrene caps, but you changed brands?

Are you into oil-filled caps?

Just curious what you swapped and what you like best.

Hi All,

Nothing is labeled, except chips, and the traces are hidden from
view, so I installed a couple of better quality audio grade Nichicon
capacitors in the power supply for the single ended op amp.

Other caps are mainly digital and main supply before regulators etc.

No poly caps and cost of such would be a grand or more, plus external
chassis.

The caps I used are no longer manufactured or sold, and were never
manufactured in large enough ufd/voltage values.

The caps I tested and use now for other projects are
Mundorf aluminum in oil. Larger values sound great,
smaller values, like other brands tested, will sound more or less
accurate, and may need a tweak I can do to the copper/gold plated
jacks.

Important: Never believe websites that claim to test and rate
capacitors. They have No idea of how to correctly run a test
and I have yet to find results that are even close to accurate.

The analog appears to be dc coupled, Burr Brown Audio chip which has
very good gain bandwidth product.

I am thinking of offering an upgrade to the Mimir single ended outputs,
pigtail analog output jacks and upgrade caps. I only use all
copper/gold plated jacks. I need to tweak the jacks no matter the brand.

If this is not allowable, I will delete this offering and offer my apology.

cheers
