Good enough smart TV [message #95360]

I know that a good rule of thumb is that you get what you pay for, and that's fine, but I'm just looking for a large smart TV that's good enough. It will be placed in a classroom like setting, where older kids will be frequent users and handlers of the machine. If this TV doesn't get wrecked, then I'll look into getting them something nicer later on. Any suggestions?

Just look around in your local big box store's. There's some pretty reasonably price tv's from what I've seen.

I've been impressed by my son's cheap model. It's a Hisense U6G. The picture is good for a smart TV that costs less than $300. It's easy to work, too.

There's been an uptick in plague cases here, and I care for elderly family members, or I might consider it. Really, though, after staying out of the store for so long, it just feels wrong. That, or I'm too lazy.

But no, the tech. behind it has been around long enough. They should be cheap.

The off brands are always low in price and I've never seen a noticeable difference in quality. There's no reason to pay full price for this anymore.

Thanks for the suggestion. I ordered it off of Amazon, since they were selling it for the lowest price. It seems easy to set up and work, so that's a big plus.

That’s a good question! If I were picking a TV for a classroom, I’d go for something good enough without spending too much. A large smart TV in the $600 to $1,000 range should work well for that kind of space. If it holds up nicely, you can always upgrade later to something in the $1,200 to $1,800 range.

Brands like Samsung, LG or Hisense usually have reliable options with clear pictures and easy smart features. Since older kids will be using it often, I’d just make sure it has a sturdy stand or wall mount and enough HDMI ports for whatever they’ll plug in. Something simple and durable will go a long way until you’re ready for an upgrade.

Since the TV that you want has to do with older kids, I will suggest that you also get a wall mount that is going to keep the TV out of reach of the kids.

As for the TV, I will suggest you check out the TCL QM7K 75-inch size which sells for $1200 on Amazon. It has 4 HDMI 2.1 ports, Google TV, and 144Hz with VRR for fluid playback. This is the size that they are using at the school that my stepson goes and it has been in use for a while according to his teacher. So, since you want something that will last for a long time, this is the one you should get.
