He don't drive 65 no more, ending at that ripe old age. Said throat cancer metastasized to his brain. He claimed it was a metal pick he used to hold in his mouth years ago. Eddie was a heavy smoker. So, unless the pick was lead or uranium I dunno about that Eddie. Sorry just the same. My age group and all.

If you liked Van Halen....
As much as everyone loves "Eruption" and so do I.... for me it was really Eddie's phrasing (not just swift fingers) that I found most exhilarating....
This was always one of my favorites, but just the last 20 seconds kind of says it all-
I was never was a HUGE fan, but I did like some of the stuff they did. But with Eddie, if you love music in general as I do, you have to tip your hat. He changed the way people people look at guitar players the way Jimi Hendrix did. That, and he was brilliant technically.
Renowned guitarist Eddie Van Halen passed away from cancer on October the 6th. There are few guitar players that could steal the light from the band's lead singer and Eddie was one of them. He developed new techniques that made his sound unique and his fast fingers were something to behold. I think one of the songs that helped solidify him as a guitar hero in my mind was Unchained with its mesmerizing riffs. You?
Eddie Van Halen was nothing short of amazing! You are right, he could steal the show at any given time. It was a shock to hear of his passing. I love that Sirius radio has a tribute Van Halen station right now.
The best thing about musicians is that what they create will last forever. Did he have more creativity in him that was cut short? We'll never know, but we can enjoy what he left us.

From what I understand their 2011 album "A different kind of truth" was basically a bunch of unused stuff from the late 70's early 80's.
Still really cool stuff composed by Eddie....but don't think you can crank it up and rock out on your Hifi system..... its squashed to hell!
Im not sure if it was tracked that way, or just mastered that way.
If only mastered with DRC (dynamic range compression) then it can always be "Re-mastered".
