The new administration is converting from an outdated unipolarity philosophy from the prior administration to one which the US is "competing" with another empire, the Chinese, in a way that maintains the aspect of US imperialism within the sphere of the western hemisphere. Whereas China expresses multipolarity as a uniform sovereign right of all countries to develop and prosper in the midst of cooperation and respect.

The old ways die hard even with acceptance of not being the biggest kid in the playground. Trouble is, being a bully doesn't win respect or gain prosperity in the long run.
