What do you think about the importance of voice actors in movies when it's a non-human character? In my opinion, the actor can make or break the character and is capable of making you either love or hate the movie/TV show.

One example comes to mind: Smaug, the dragon in The Hobbit. I think Benedict Cumberbatch did a brilliant job there.

What do you guys think?

I am not sure if it would "make or break" the character honestly, but voice actors are important to a certain extent. Everyone's taste is different, and while you think Smaug was done well, another person might hate that voice. I think it's subjective.

My favorite voice actors were from the 40's, 50's and 60's.

Most are in this article but in my opinion June Foray, Hans Conried, Bea Benaredet, Daws Butler and Paul Frees should have been much higher on the list. But they were the voices of my favorite cartoons and that's my bias.

Mel Blanc is listed as #1 and it's hard to argue that. He'd either be at the top or very near the top of any such list.

Agree that voice actors can make or break a movie or TV show. That said, it can get a bit distracting when I'm aware that a well-known actor is voicing a role; sometimes, I can't help imagining that person's face.

I'm rarely able to identify which actor it is. I think it's maybe happened once. I immediately recognized John Goodman as the voice of Sulley in Monsters, Inc. I believe that's it. I'm impressed that you're able to pick them out.

I agree with you, OP. Even though the show won a lot of awards, I still feel that casting Beyoncé as Nala was a big mistake.

It's kinda important. Imagine Darth Vader's voice with Pee Wee Herman's rather than James Earl Jones.
Actually, I'd like to hear that.

Yeah, obviously not, but I could see him as Jar Jar Binks. That would've been the perfect role for Peewee. I wonder what he's up to lately? He kind of fell off the Hollywood scene.

He fell off life itself. He's passed on from this transient existence bout' a year ago now. One of America's unique oddball characters. His kiddy show was just that.
