What are good sound-proofing options for a large room that doesn't have any carpet in it? I'm in an apartment building, so I can't afford to damage the walls. I also live on the second floor, so I have neighbors below me to worry about as well.
Two things that can help are adding some thick fabric curtains and some plush area rugs. It's not a perfect solution, but they're easy fixes that won't require you to make any permanent changes.
That's a pretty good idea. My mom is always telling me I need to spruce up my room, so a rug and curtains will serve a double purpose--sound-proofing and decorating!
You could also look into an acoustic room divider as an additional way to sound-proof. I have one that I got for under sixty dollars. I like using it to further sound-proof a small area of a room.

I didn't know that these pads existed! They look like a good option to keep your sound-proofing discreet (unlike my room divider suggestion). I might look into getting some of these!
Definitely put carpet padding down and a thick plush throw rug. Also pillows help, so add pillows to your furniture. Emptier rooms are horrible so put things in the room to help absorb the sound.
