A couple of years back there was a problem with too much bass with the 2 pi towers and the subs. Ended up turning the frequency lower on the rear sub as it turned out to be a 2nd order crossover and it was overwhelming things when set at 70 or 80. It worked much better at 35 or 40 hz.
Now there's a similar issue with the 4 pi's: too much bass that's mellowing out the sound. What fixed it? Turning UP the crossover frequency of the rear sub. Took it from about 40 hz to about 50 hz and it cleaned up the bass and removed a great deal of the murky and laid back quality of the bass.
I'm convinced the audio Gods and muses exist just to mess with you.
