Wireless earbuds have continued to become popular and there are clear indications that wireless audio will continue to sound better, over time. Many flagship headphones are also doing away with the headphone jack.
Would we then presume that the Airpods can be credited with jumpstarting the wireless revolution? How soon before companies stop manufacturing wired headphones?
It all depends on when consumers want to stop using them. New inventions in and of themselves do not mean the end of old inventions. It simply means consumers have more choices.

Hi, I seriously doubt that wired phones will ever go away. They are too reliable, superior sounding and not plagued by transmission noise or battery life. Wireless ones do have their place, but will not replace wired ones. Just take a look in the Music Direct current catalog and note the very large number of wired ones.
I have to agree with you gofar about wired headphones being here for the long haul. The end consumer may have more choices over time but there will still be a fraction of them that will be stuck with the wired alternatives. In my opinion, smartphone companies shouldn't do away with the headphone jack as this limits the options.
