Hi, Thanks for the nice comments. It is quite difficult to set up gear in hotel rooms, especially ones with all concrete block walls. We use a PC and calibrated signal generator and mic to sort it out as best as possible. Yes we do kits and some are easy and some not. No commercial plugs here, as it is against my personal values. In the kit world, figure out what your budget may be, kits like ours (all tube based) are not cheap, but solid state ones can be quite inexpensive. Another thing you might consider is using modules to build something. Parts Express has many and you can build amps, preamps and other stuff with them cheaply and with good results. Elliot Sound has some and if they are still in business Ramsey Electronics. First you should decide on what you want and can use. The re-ask the question as we will be better able to help you out.
Good Listening
Bruce
