How do you feel about a computer monitor that has built-in speakers? Is the quality guaranteed to stink? I have a rather small desk so I was thinking of saving some space by getting a new monitor that comes with internal speakers.

I had a monitor with built-in speakers and it was pretty unbearable to listen to music through it. I had to buy a set of external desktop speakers because I couldn't stand it anymore.

It depends on the quality of the monitors. I'm using a Samsung monitor at work, and it does well for listening to music while working. The built-in speakers are not suitable for movie-watching, but I don't watch at work, so I don't need an external speaker for that.

What's really odd is that I don't notice any audio deficiencies when I'm listening to music or watching a movie on my phone or tablet. But I cringe when I'm doing the same on my desktop computer when its monitors are my only source of sound. Upgrading those speakers makes a world of difference. Maybe it's because the desktop computer looks more like a television so I expect it to sound better. Hmmm...
