Does anybody remember the good old days when your only selection was between 33 or 45 rpm? Or when you placed a CD in the player and pressed "play"?

My Soekris R2R ladder dac offers the choice of four user selectable filters: linear phase, linear/minimum phase mix, minimum phase, and soft minimum phase. It will accept a 16, 20, or 24 bit input signal at either 48, 96, or 192khz. The Cambridge Audio CD player I'm using as a transport offers a choice of straight through 16/48 or upsampling to any of the bit rates and frequencies the dac is capable of processing, plus a choice of dithering or no dithering.

I'm dithering about which of the above to select, but it all sounds good.

Yes, there are definitely too many choices. Sadly, I can't even hear the difference between the options much of the time, which makes me paranoid that my hearing is going bad. The exception is dithering. I usually fall into the no dithering category.

Hi Fred, Don't you mean 16/44 not 16/48. 48 is midi and 44 is cd?

Or I could really go obsolete and replace the solid state amp with a tube amp. Smile

Not too many choices from my rig. 33 and a third with an occasional 45. The choices being what platters to spin. Pushed through some bottles.
