I'm trying a project on my own. I have two 2.1 speakers, one is a Sony and the other is JBL. The subwoofer of the Sony is damaged, but the JBL is still working fine. Do you think it is alright that I will make a 4.1 setup out of these two sets of speakers?

I wouldn't mind substituting the subwoofer, but the mains and surrounds should have similar tonal balance. Do the two brands of speakers sound similar?

If they sound similar in most respects, but one pair is a little better than the others, make the better pair the mains and the lesser pair the surrounds.

I would like to learn how to have a setup like this. How many small speakers can we join up? Won't there be any compatibility issues with setting up different brands of speakers?

The Sony speakers sounded better than the JBL counterparts, so I will make the Sony speakers as my main. Should I continue using the old cables or is it better to change all the cables so I won't have problems.
