I am thinking of going along to some of the audio fairs that are on up and down the country (Britain). I thought I might start by not going too far afield - I am in London and this one in Tonbridge is not too far:
Looks as though I'll have to wait until October though!
It looks as though Audio Jumble might be interesting in terms of vintage items that might be picked up, plus there might be a few useful bits for a modern system.
