I have had the good fortune to inherit the family home cine films from the 1960's which have on them a lot of family history. The question is, how do I go about converting these to a digital format that can then be distributed amongst the relatives?
I know that some commercial services are available, but I am also wondering about having a go myself.
I would also go for a commercial copy of this one. I don't think there is an application that automatically converts an old film into digital. We also need to consider the type of recording the film was recorded in.
The problem with hiring someone to do it is that it's very expensive if you have a lot to convert. We paid hundreds of dollars to have my grandparents' old 8mm films converted. I It might be worth trying on your own to save money. Just be sure to practice on the one you care the least about in case it gets ruined.
