Whenever there is total silence around me I always hear this high pitched squeal in my ears. It's a continuous sound that I only notice when there's no other sounds present. Can anyone tell me if this is due to listening at high volumes or if it's natural?

That's called tinnitus and it is an indication of ear damage. Most people get temporary tinnitus after being exposed to loud sounds but it goes away after a while. If you regularly subject yourself to loud sounds, you'll begin to experience long-lasting and eventually even permanent tinnitus. So take it easy on your ears.
Yeah, that isn't natural. I would get that checked out ASAP. Brian Johnson of AC/DC probably has that. His doctor told him to quit touring or go totally deaf. Long durations of loud music will take its toll.
