I once bought a speaker that didn't exceed my expectations at all. This got me thinking, would it be a good idea to carry along your favourite digital tracks so as to hear them and identify the best speakers? Are there places that don't allow this?

Yes, most places that sell sound equipment will let you audition with your own source material. It's a good idea since you are familiar with the music that you bring.
I didn't realize places let you do this as I'd never thought of it myself. I feel foolish now. This is a really great idea and I plan to use it next time.
