Vinyls are slowly fading into non existence in my opinion. Do you think that in the years to come the younger generations will lose the knowledge of vinyls and what they are.
There is a thread here talking about the reemergence of vinyl to the extent that LP players seem like the 'in-thing'. Technology has a way of making things that may look 'obsolete' at one point, very relevant at the next moment.

Hi, Yes there is another thread on vinyl.....contrary to what you think it is growing again. The last info I had on the sales was that it is greater now than any time since 2000. CDs are the ones taking the big hit, they are way down. Now to be sure the sales of vinyl are small compared to digital down loads, but then the much higher quality of things like Blue ray audio are even smaller.

I don't even recall the last time I bought a CD record. What can be attributed to this decline? There have been people claiming that they aren't long-lasting.

Hi, I believe the decline of CDs has two main causes...one they won't fit into a pocket sized player. Two, for digital music, hi-rez downloads have higher quality and you only need to buy the songs you want, not 10 you didn't to get the one on a CD you really wanted. I blame that on the artists and marketing folks. Someone has a hit and they stuff (frequently but not always) a whole lot of duds on the disk with it. Duh, you end up paying 10 times as much as if you just downloaded the single.
I agree with you gofar and I think the CD's main undoing is the somewhat 'lower' quality and/or bulkiness so-to-speak. What do you suppose will be more popular, in the few years to come?
With some people though, paying for extra songs when they don't know what they sound like yet is part of the whole audio experience. Just because an artist released a song to be a hit for the public, doesn't mean they didn't record a song that will be a hit for you personally. We all have different tastes.
I get the concept of saving money in this way, but some people love ALL music, and those are the one's that will keep vinyl alive in my opinion.
I love the fact that vinyl is coming back when everyone thought that this had become obsolete. It will be interesting to see how far this conversation will go and for how long vinyl will remain relevant.
I actually think the decline is in cd sales and it is due to the hi-res digital downloads that are available. As far as vinyl is concerned, I still have some and I love to listen to them. I don't think I'll ever totally get rid of them.
