I've gotten so used to background music in businesses that it creeps me out when I'm in one that isn't playing any. It's just too silent and makes the place seem less hospitable. Do you feel the same way?

I suppose it depends on what type of music is playing. In truth, I'm mainly concerned with just conducting whatever business I have, and then leaving. The music is incidental.
It depends on the place, but generally if I'm going to spend more than 2 minutes there, yes, I will notice. I particularly hate no background music at restaurants.

I'm the same way. I've got to have background noise of some type going all the time, pretty much regardless of where I'm at. I keep either music or the TV going all the time when I'm at home or in the car.
I think almost everyone has gotten used to hearing some type of noise all throughout the day. Silence is almost unnerving to me if I am at work, in the car, etc. The only time I really want total silence is at night when I'm sitting on the front porch or when I'm trying to go to sleep.
I find this to be really strange too. It's like when I go to Wal-Mart and then walk into Target. It always creeps me out that it's so silent in there. It makes you not even want to talk loudly, like you're in a library.
Absolutely! I can't stand to be stuck in a silent office! It is creepy. I think you can play something appropriate that the client would like too! It makes them feel more at home.
I naturally feel odd if music isn't playing somewhere, purely because I'm always listening to music whether at home, the gym, the car, the shower, and everywhere else.
If I'm busy or working on something that takes concentration I'll turn it off so I can focus. If I am just sitting around, then I like to have some music on.
If you become accustomed to anything then it will feel weird when it's not happening. So, yea, it's probably weird for a lot of people who love music when it's not on.
