How do you best deal with this? Vibrations occuring in a room can be quite distracting and distorting to the sound. How are surfaces that vibrate best isolated from each other?

Constrained layer damping is the best way I can think of. It decouples two rigid surfaces with a viscous material between them to provide damping.

Decoupling surfaces is the best way to stop it. If this is flooring with something standing on it, something as simple as putting a rug down can help, or hanging fabric drapes in front of windows.
