Is it true that a room that has a lot of hard surfaces tends to have a lot of sound reflections. I have always envisioned my future home as one with wood floors and bare walls. Should this be anything to worry about? I love good bass production, above everything else.

Yes, hard surfaces are more reflective than those with some damping material. You'll probably want to add some absorbent furniture, carpeting and drapes if you want good sound.
I will almost do anything to ensure these reflections are minimized. I was in such a house a while back and just like Wayne says, I was forced to purchase absorbent furniture.
