Okay, let's see who the real audiophiles are on this site. Where, exactly, do you put music on your financial priority list? Is it a need or a want? Is it near the top of your list or near the bottom?
It's in the middle. For now. I can see that in 10 years or so it's going to be much higher. As I start slowing down, I will be stepping up my appreciation and involvement in everything audio.
To me, music is more of a want rather than a need. Besides, it is not one of those things that you will keep spending money on. All the same, I prefer to buy music equipment that will last.

Hi, I prowl the used record stores and usually come home with about 10 LPs a month. Most are in the one dollar range, but some special ones are $4-5. I find that many of the cheapest ones (50 cents or so) are actually in excellent to near mint condition. Some seem to never have been played.
When I was younger it was a budgeting need, even if I had to raid the bargain bins. Now I have a collection to fall back on, it is a want and I am more selective about what I buy.
For me, music isn't really a need. It is one of those things that's not really up there in my priority list. Back in the day, it used to be a need but then it looks like priorities change over time.
For me it's a need. Always has been and always will be. Although my tastes have changed over the years I love my music while doing just about everything. I currently have a pretty good set up here in the house and in my car so I'm a happy girl!!!
I am normally torn as to whether music is a need or want. I don't really budget for it but whenever I come across something that I love, I normally don't mind going out of my way to purchase it.
