I have never bought earphones before. Whenever my friends are travelling abroad, they bring me gifts and so I have a lot of good quality earphones. I wouldn't mind spending a huge sum on them, if I was left with no choice.
The most expensive set of earphones that I've ever purchased cost me around $15. They sounded pretty good and lasted me about two years. I know some people that don't even bother spending that much and they get a pair from the dollar store. It doesn't seem to last them that long, though.
I don't spend a lot on headphones. The best pair I had cost around £10 and had enhanced bass, but while the sound was good they didn't last any longer than the cheaper pairs I was buying for 99p.
As long as I'm getting good quality sound, I've never really thought about the price, but now that I do, I don't believe I've spent over $50 on a pair of headphones.

Hi, I like ones from Sennheiser and they run about $75. I find the less costly ones do not have the well balanced response that I like. More costly ones don't seem to be much better for my needs YMMV.
The most I have spent before is $10. I would only spend more if the earphones were of really exceptional quality. The ones I have had in the past didn't last long though.
