Just wondering whether there is any noticeable difference in sound quality between speakers plugged in through USB ports, or those plugged in through a dedicated jack? I've never noticed one, but my PC speakers aren't the greatest. Is there anything noticeable at the top end?

Headphone jacks usually come off a dedicated sound card, which means it can do a lot of the sound refinement up front. USB comes off a standard USB socket which rarely has specialist sound processing so the speakers or headphones matter a lot more as the conversion to analog is done by them.

Thanks for that very informative reply. I was also wondering the same thing and I'm glad to know that my hunch was right.
