I usually just use a pair of USB-powered external speakers since the sound from my laptop sounds severely tinny at high volumes. It's an inexpensive and simple solution.
I think that's the only way. You might be able to go deep into your computer's settings and configurations and reconfigure factory settings, but that seems like a big hassle when the alternative is just to plug in external speakers.
External speakers will definitely do the trick. I bought a set of two speakers and a subwoofer and it sounds just right for my ears. At times, I comfortably watch a movie on the laptop.
