Why are reality shows so popular? I hardly have the energy and time to keep up with the things that need doing in my own life, much less be spending it on these (scripted) shows.

Your guess is as good as mine as they bear little resemblance to reality. I suspect mostly though it is a vicarious desire to engage in situations that in real life none of us would even consider.
I suspect that you are right, Bruce. It's strange how perception works; some may superficially believe the scenes to be real even though they may actually know the scenes have been arranged to simulate reality.
