Does anyone really watch such shows anymore? None of my peers are interested in which actors or artists get nominated or win the awards handed out. Personally, my favorite musicians and actors remain my favorite, whether they get any awards or not.

During my time, award shows were quite popular among those I knew. I myself was always looking forward to the Academy Awards. It's not that it would have changed my perception of the actors but rather that I found it entertaining.
