This was a music show on T.V. back in the 70's and 80's that had the big acts like Elton John performing their songs live. I have wondered why they don't bring back an updated version of that show.

If they did, what acts would you like to see in a setting like that?

I grew up in the 90's so I do not directly relate to this show. Nonetheless, I am a huge fan of Elton John. I suppose his performances were electric back then?

I grew up in the 90's too, so I always attended clubs where bands would perform nightly. It was a lot of fun, but I always wished that they would have musical performances on TV for us. If I wanted to see those you had to pay for them on Showtime.

The show's YT channel is fun to dig through. Here is the pilot episode and origin story.

Random fact: Microsoft's Paul Allen offered to buy the rights to the show, and the producer said no.

I remember that show! I think it kind of fizzled after MTV started.

Yeah, the rise of MTV, maybe cable TV in general, and possibly SNL. Glad that the show's episodes were kept in good shape. They're quite the pop culture archive now.

Austin City Limits on PBS has featured many rock, country, blues and other genres over the years. Don't forget Don Kirshner's, Rock Concert in the 70's & 80's. Here's a Wikipedia list of performers. Darn near every classic rock band.

I'm still scrolling through episodes on YouTube. Billy Preston is one of my favorite hosts so far. Also watched the Jim Croce episode, which was good but depressing; Croce and his guitarist Maury Muehleisen perished just a few months later.

This show's a mixed bag. Episode One is cool, then it depended on the host. I'll check out the latest upload. David Bowie is host.
