I'm taking classes online through DeVry University. I had an assignment to turn in today but ran into problems while using software on DeVry's server. Long story short, I had to get tech support on the phone. An hour and a half later, the tech guy had pretty much determined that my problem was resulting from at least one (but probably three) viruses on my computer. So this means my antivirus software -- Panda -- is falling short. Which antivirus software would you recommend?

For a freebe...AVG. There is a free version but you have to hunt for it as they want you to buy the "full" version. Your internet provider may also offer something free as part of the deal. Mine offers one. My personal choice one is part of a PC maintenance program (Advanced System Care) I have the paid version on this PC but use their free one on another. Neither has ever had a problem. One program worth getting is "Rogue Killer" by adlace. The free version is quite thorough in hunting down virus that might have been stuck in the root area. Good on Trojans as well.
I like AVG and Avast, both of which have really good free versions. I'm running Avast on my MacBook and my hubby runs AVG on his desktop -- neither computer has had any problems.
AVG and Avast are both great, and work really well from my own experiences. I used to use a McAfee Enterprise version that students got free from the university. Have you looked into that...perhaps DeVry would offer a similar program? I would also suggest MalwareBytes for malware removal. It works great!
I have been running Microsoft Essentials free version and have never had any problems. I have never had any malware on my personal computer but installed MalwareBytes on my father's computers when he was having a lot of issues. He is now running AVG along with MalwareBytes.
I have always used whatever Microsoft offers me and I never have any problems. They are free too so I wouldn't know HOW to buy a subscription if I had to.
