My son plays acoustic guitar and now wants to play electric. We have a room in the basement that he has set up as his music room. I'm wondering how well acoustic panels work in keeping the sound in the room instead of all over the house? Does it work in sound-proofing or just improves the sound in the room he's playing in?

Did you end up using acoustic panels in your room and did it work well? We used cork board when my husband had his music studio in the basement and it was a good dampening material.

Yes, we ended up buying panels for the room. It works as well as can be expected. Especially when there is two of them playing instruments.

You can also try putting some foam on the ceiling to further dampen the sound. Is he a pretty good player? Are he and his friends forming a band?
