My friend is looking for an amp, but is trying to spend at least as possible. What should be the minimal price for a decent amp that would not break out on him?

I've got two of the C272's. One for each speaker, both mono bridged. Very clean, powerful and convincing, plenty of warmth. Of course the front end helps and the Project Turntable seems to be a nice match. The amps also seem to sound better if left on. they like to be warm to be at their operational optimal. A good buy. If you can afford two of the C272's you won't be disappointed.Crystal
