I'm looking for some opinions regarding the use of Shure Beta 58 versus 87a's for live vocals. The venue will be a church sanctuary and the drum kit is behind closed doors so the mics shouldn't pick them up. What has been your experience with one versus the other?

Both are great live vocal mics, but which one you want really depends on the vocalist. The 87 will be airier than the 58. If you can get both, that would be ideal. If you can only get one, I'd get the 58.
