Sicphones released a headphone amplifier kit. According to this article, it's very easy to put together and his 6 year old daughter assisted him. It's too bad he doesn't have a review on the actual audio yet though.
Have you ever put together a headphone amplifier? Was it part of a kit or your own design?

Reasonably easy to build , but certainly not as simple as a SS one.
I am still traveling so I can't tell the brand...but there is a small one similar to the link you provided sold by Parts Express for as I recall around $25. It is about 1.5 X 1.5 x 0.25 inches in size and is rechargeable. Works great. Not a kit though. I use mine to test equipment that doesn't have power output stages. Good for about 100mw.
Yes, I figured solid state would be easier than a tube amp. The kit sounded very basic, but I don't know how complicated headphone amplifiers are in general.
