The 7' 8" tall baffles for the DR912ad line arrays are completed. The next task is to design and fabricate a base and a support mechanism to keep them standing upright. These speakers currently exist as the DR912a speakers, a bass reflex enclosed design. The new speakers' dimensions will be 94"H, 17"W, 2.5"D.

The DR912ad (dipole) version is an open baffle variation using the same array of nine BG Neo 8 PDR tweeters with twelve 7" Dayton Audio RS180 midwoofers per side. The TC Sounds Epic 12 bass reflex subwoofer used with the ported version will be replaced by two H-frame Eminence Alpha 15 open baffle subwoofers. The open back version will also use the same DEQX digital processor for control preamp, crossover, equalization and room correction functions, with the tweeters, midwoofers and subwoofers each having their own amplification channel.

Yes, routing the holes and rebates for 42 drivers does create lots of sawdust! And, no, these will not be going to the 2014 LSAF. They're too tall to transport and they require a much bigger room than the standard suites. The ideal listening distance is about twelve feet from the baffles, which must be placed at least three feet from the wall behind them.
