My first stereo was a 40wpc integrated solid state JVC amplifier, with some off brand speakers that had 2-8" woofers and a 2" tweeter in a tower floor stander, and a Technics turntable that used a counter weight for the needle tracking force and another small weight for the anti-skip. Sounded good for a small system. ca. 1975.

My first hi fi was monaural, and when stereo records became available I added a second amplifier, a stereo turntable and speakers to convert it to two channels. The original amplifier was a twelve watt Knight Kit. Back then you could buy a kit, solder it together, and save a few dollars. This is the amp:
